Back in San Diego! Roadtrip Roundup: by the numbers

At last, we are back in San Diego! We saw Taliesin West this last day, had our last Southwestern Mexican meal (can do without it for a while, I think), and hit the road.

Total trip miles: 4919 miles.

Total miles per gallon: 45. I'm pretty happy about this, because we went up and down a lot of mountains, went pretty fast on the 2-lane highways, and had the trunk and backseat filled with luggage, including Costco pallets of water!

Best mpg: 85.5 mpg for the 30 miles from Flagstaff to Sedona... Yes it's pretty much downhilll!

Worst mpg: 33.7 mpg for the 142 miles from Sonora TX to Ft. Stockton TX. This was the scary drive from San Antonio to Marfa, where we drove right into a windstorm. Only later did we learn that the winds got to 60-80 mph.

Fastest speed: 90 mph in Texas, before we encountered the windstorm.

Lowest speed: 10 mph in Arizona, when we found ourselves on a gravel road. Also tied for scariest drive with the windstorm, because we had no idea how long this would last.
