Montreal Eats: Macarons

Montreal Eats: Macarons

I was going to Toronto to visit a friend, and decided that I would bring macarons as a gift. If packed well, they are generally travel well, and are visually impressive. I taste-tested two in the neighborhood of the Mont Royal metro stop.

La Maison du Macaron was a beautifully minimal store, with just a glass case of different macarons. I tried two - one was a maple flavor, and the other a classic pistachio. The maple macaron was stunning. Pure maple flavor that I wished wouldn't end. However, its texture was too airy, as if it had no interior and only crust. The pistachio by contrast was a bit too chewy.

Point G was the other store I tried. Once again I had the pistachio, and tried one of their funky flavors, lime-basil. They were both a little too sweet for my taste, and the lime-basil was just weird. But their texture was just the right amount of chewiness, and consistent between the two.

While the interior of the store was rather downscale, littered with additional non-macaron-related merchandise you could purchase, I appreciated their fresh approach to graphic design. Instead of the traditional bakery route speaking loudly to tradition, Point G was fresh and contemporary. I decided to buy my friend a six-pack from here.
