Kruger Safari Wildlife: four-legged mammals

Besides the Big 5, we got to see so many other wonderful animals. Among them were giraffe, which were so peaceful and serene. They would just look at you and blink with their long lashes. We also got to see a hyena, and bush babies at night. Bush babies are really cute - they can actually jump sideways from tree to tree, and they jump so quickly it looks like a cartoon.

Here's the nyala, the supermodel of the bush.

Impala are very common, but they are still cool nonetheless. When a big group is looking at you, the pattern of their white and black and brown is really mesmerizing. They also have really cool tails - they hold them flat against their behind when they're running. Their behind loosely forms an "M," and our rangers told us some people say it's M for McDonald's because they're so common (and everyone eats them).

We also saw the water buck. The rangers said that they were the first animals on Noah's Ark, because when they sat on the toilets the paint was still drying, and got the white ring on their behind. But actually it's a following mark, for the water buck behind them to look at when they're running in groups.

We also saw plenty of zebra. Here they're just hanging out with some impala. They aren't very elegant creatures when they run - their little tail sticks straight up and the fart as they run. I heard them myself; they are discreet farts but perpetually repeating while in motion.
