Happy Chinese New Year's from Spain!

Happy Chinese New Year's from Spain!

Spain is a country that just loves its festivals. In Valencia there is the big month-long festival of Fallas of course, but I feel like every weekend people are getting dressed up and celebrating some saint, or other religious event.

So it wasn't a surprise that the city really got into the Chinese New Year celebration.

Look at this turnout! And this was just on one of the main streets.

It seemed like most of the participants in the parade itself were Spanish people!

Even the lucky lion dancers were Spanish.

Of course, we had holiday-specific meals at home. Some dumplings (frozen, hee hee!).

And I made butter 年糕 (nian gao, New Year's Cake) with red beans, for the first time. Doesn't look like much, but it was so good! And much tastier than the traditional kind with just brown sugar and rice flour. Will be making this again next year!

Happy New Year! 恭喜發財!新年快樂!
