Trip Report SIN-SYD

Trip Report SIN-SYD

This is a continuation of my BKK to Sydney (SYD) trip, with the first segment being BKK-SIN.

In Singapore, I visited the SilverKris Lounge, which is Singapore Airline's flagship lounge in the new Terminal 3.  It's decorated with a very luxe-modern look.  The food serving area just by itself was huge.

Since I had already eaten so much in BKK, and couldn't even finish my meal BKK-SIN, I just had a few light items.  Pork broth with wintermelon and carrots, cold soba noodles, and a sea honey and jelly dessert (not sure if I got that name right).  Just hit the spot at the moment, but I would come to regret later not eating more!

My flight was on a Boeing 747-400, which has the older SpaceBed seats (reclines flat, but not horizontal).  I was able to secure in advance my favorite seat on the 747 - upper deck, window seat, exit row, with the side storage bins!

So this is why I came to regret not eating more in the lounge.  On the SIN-SYD service, passengers have a choice of either being served after takeoff, or before landing, but not both.  Plus, the food options were decidedly snack-y options like noodle soup, or Singapore carrot cake.  No appetizers or desserts.  I decided to "save" my meal for before landing.  So for dinner, along with my Singapore Sling which I tried for the first time (sweet, fruity), I had two bags of mixed nuts.  Had to request the second bag of nuts.

Prior to landing, I had the slipper lobster thermidor which I pre-ordered through the Book the Cook service.  It was good.  The taste was pretty good, but the best part was really to say that I had lobster on the plane.

The flight attendants on this flight were truly awesome.  Always smiling and making you feel welcome!  But I was disappointed that the food service was so sparse for the 7 hr 30 min flight; I usually don't feel hungry flying, so this was a first to actually feel hungry at dinner.  The other disappointment was the amenity kit, which was only a pair of booties and eyeshades.  That's actually less than what Turkish Airlines gives to economy class passengers.  So I guess I was expecting a bit more especially since this was Singapore Airlines, though the flight attendants definitely lived up to their reputation.
