Lockdown Day 61: Falafel sliders on the last day of lockdown(?)

Lockdown Day 61: Falafel sliders on the last day of lockdown(?)

This morning I had my glutinous rice shaomai and tea egg breakfast.

I took lunch outside, because it was such a nice day. Warm, but not too warm, with a nice breeze.

I made falafel sliders again using my frozen Tramy mantou, and my extra falafel patties, roasted eggplant, sun-dried tomato hummus, and this time I added a piece of sun-dried tomato on each slider. So delicious! I also topped with more hummus between bites.

I also fried up some of the green vegetables with garlic.

It really was a nice day out! Neighbors put out lots of laundry to dry.

In the afternoon, entryway lady called us down to distribute… more antigen tests! These are the brand that we always used before PCR tests, and are supposedly what we should bring to do PCR tests when we do them on our own, out in the wild now.

And then did the afternoon antigen test. Some people made a fuss and refused to do it. Why? It’s like the last one! Now is the time you’re putting down your foot against too much testing, after 2 months, and the day before liberation?

I did an espresso workout for leg day, but not the programmed one because it involved running or jump rope. Since my downstairs neighbor did come up to complain about the noise I was making when working out, I’ve been extra careful to avoid jumping moves, and using my IKEA folding mattress when I can for deadlifts, up-and-downs, burpees, etc. But running and jump rope are just too hard to do on that mattress!

For dinner, I made stir-fried sweet and sour Napa cabbage, and I steamed a zongzi 粽子.

This is one of the dishes that I quite enjoyed from earlier in the lockdown. I didn’t remember the original recipe exactly, but I kind of winged it. Still turned out pretty tasty!

The zongzi tasted good as well, and this time I steamed it under pressure for 20 minutes in the Xiaomi (really reduces heat and steam in the kitchen compared to cooking on the stovetop). This was a good amount of time; the zongzi came out nice and moist and chewy. But where’s the pork? I searched and searched and finally found a small piece on the side.

I did one more antigen test…. but is it still necessary? Also, I had wanted to use one of the Mingde 明德 brand ones, to take to the PCR place tomorrow. But like I was running on automatic, I pulled out one of the other brand’s antigen tests. Oh well, I still have an “extra” negative Mingde antigen test lying around, for one time when we were supposed to have done a PCR the next day, but it was cancelled all of a sudden.

It seems like lockdown will really end tomorrow. Actually tonight I already saw lots of pictures of people outside on social media, and I heard some compounds already announced liberation (I don’t know a better word!) earlier today.

Well, it’s actually 12:03am, so I guess we’re already liberated!

(Pooh, I can already hear cars on the big street. I don’t think I ever noticed their noise before, but after two months of complete silence, I notice them now!)

Liberation Day!

Liberation Day!
