Bari Desserts! Gelato at Gentile, and Pasticciotto at Martinucci

Though I was in Bari for less than 24 hours, I was able to indulge in several sweet treats!

First was gelato at Gentile, a place that I noticed just around the block from the B&B we were staying at. It seemed quite popular, and had a nice look to it, so I decided to get a cone.

The interior was pretty!

I got the mandorla di (almond) flavor and the caffè flavor, both intensely flavored and with a wonderful texture. I also got panna (whipped cream) on top, and there was a second tinier cone on top of it all! I was so happy to have just stumbled across this wonderful gelateria.

I actually came back the next day with my parents, for another gelato just before we got into the car for Matera.

I’d read that pasticciotto is a typical pastry from Puglia, and Martinucci was the place to get them.

It was quite busy, being 10pm!

We had just eaten a big dinner at La Uascèzze, so it was great to see that they offered a smaller “medio” size of the traditional pasticciotto.

Here we could see them in the process of baking.

The pasticciotto was still warm from the oven.

It was an intensely buttery, short crust, with a filling of pastry cream. It was incredibly delicious, and indulgent: the “medio” size would be the perfect size in any occasion I think, as the regular size could be too large!
