Best of New Orleans: Sightseeing roundup

Best of New Orleans: Sightseeing roundup

Still playing catchup here! After Savannah, we proceeded to Mobile, AL, and then to New Orleans. New Orleans is a nice place to just walk around and absorb the different look of the buildings, streets, etc.

A nice non-traditional sightseeing activity was going to the New Orleans School of Cooking, where we learned to make gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding, and pralines. Gumbo and jambalaya and pralines, will definitely be trying those out sometime!

Plus you get more than enough food for lunch!

I also liked the tour of the Garden District and Lafayette Cemetery, given by Historic New Orleans Tours. We took the streetcar there - really fun because it's a real relic! Wooden seats, manual shift gears, etc. At the same time it was cool, I felt a sort of sadness because throughout New Orleans I felt as if it was a city whose best days were behind it, as I felt somewhat in Savannah and Mobile too. I hope to be proven wrong.

Here is a house on the tour - apparently it is in the movie Benjamin Button! I shall have to see it now.
