Trip report: Buenos Aires to Iguazu by bus

Trip report: Buenos Aires to Iguazu by bus

Total trip time was 17 hours 30 minutes. Sounds grueling, but I actually enjoyed it all!

I took the bus line Via Bariloche; they offer different levels of service, and I chose (I think) the top service which is Super Cama. Each bus only has one class of service. So our bus only had 26 of these luxurious seats. The one way ticket from Buenos Aires was AR$200, about US$56.

There are only 3 seats across in each level of the bus, and they all have these fixed privacy dividers, just like in first class and some business class seats on the airplane! And they recline pretty much to 180 degrees as you can see in this picture.

There is an attendant on board, and he served everyone by hand (without a cart like on the airplane!). First, he handed out candy on departure. Then 2 hours after departure at about 9:40pm (this is Argentina after all), we were served dinner. First he handed out lap trays with two grooves for your legs. Then we got trays with a roll, crackers, ham and rice salad, and grapes. And this was only the appetizer course!

Then he came around with drinks (7 Up, Pepsi, water, or wine). Then we got metal containers of stuffed chicken and diced squash. Then more drinks.

Then after everything was cleared, he brought around a tray with cups of coffee and cookies for us to choose from.

Then it was lights out, and he played a movie (it was "Dan in Real Life" - in English with Spanish subtitles). During the movie he came around with post-dinner liquers!

Then I slept for about 9 hours. When I woke up, the attendant was handing out the lap trays again. Then trays with breakfast. 2 medialunas, orange juice, cracker toast, alfajores (the Argentinian cookie - two soft cookies sandwiching dulce de leche, coated with chocolate). Then he came around with coffee, tea, or mate. Of course I tried the mate! He gave me a couple extra sugars just to be sure.

I wish every journey could be so luxurious, not to mention cost effective!

Soaked!

Soaked!
