Lodging Review: De Waterkant Village, Cape Town

I highly recommend De Waterkant Village in Cape Town. It fit my criteria of "close enough to restaurants to walk to dinner, safe enough to walk back afterwards" perfectly. In fact, it was diagonally across the street from about 4 different restaurants.

De Waterkant Village is actually a collection of self-catering apartments and 2 guesthouses. My room was in The Charles guesthouse, up 2 flights of stairs. The first flight takes you to this roof deck, from where every morning I looked at the water in the bay and the cute houses of De Waterkant, every night I would take in the skyscraper lights from City Bowl.

The room itself - who could ask for anything more for $40/night? Granite, marble,...very luxurious.

One of the best parts about my stay was the receptionist Charles. So accomodating with every request I had, and even anticipated some of my concerns. The room I was assigned to in the beginning was actually a self-catering apartment. It was absolutely stunning, with a full kitchen, living room, and frosty glass partitions like what I imagine a genuine NY loft would have. Only problem was that it opened directly onto the street. I didn't actually think about it, being so overwhelmed by the luxury of the apartment, until Charles said, "Are you okay that it opens directly onto the street?" And then he offered to show me the room I got eventually.

Definitely stay here if you come to Cape Town!
